What is Acrobatic Arts?

What is Acrobatic Dance?
Acrobatic Dance or acro as it is commonly referred to by dancers and dance professionals, is the beautiful fusion of classic dance technique and the precision and athleticism of acrobatic elements. Often defined by unique choreography, acro dancers seamlessly blend musicality, emotional expression, lines and extension with acrobatic movements in a dance context.
What is the difference between acro and gymnastics?
Acro is an art form that only uses the body to execute lifts, balances, tumbling, and contortion for use in dance choreography. Gymnastics is a sport that uses apparatuses such as bars, beams, vaults, etc. to execute their tricks.
Does a student have to take dance at Elite in order to take Acro at Elite?
Yes. Our Acro classes are supplements to our technique classes. They work hand in hand to create a beautiful, proficient, and well-rounded dance artist.
Is there different pricing for Acro classes?
Yes. The Acrobatic Arts Program is a separate division with special pricing. See current registration information for details.
When are Acro classes held?
Classes meet weekly during the summer and regular dance seasons. See current registration information for specific dates and times.
Why should my dancer take Acro?
Acro creates strong, flexible, and confident dancers! It’s super fun too!! ☺
What levels of Acro do you offer?
Primary- Ages 4 & 5 year olds
Level A- 1st Grade+ (no previous experience needed)
Level B-E- By teacher approval only.
New dancers in 1st grade and above should register for Level A. They will be evaluated and placed in appropriate level by instructor.
Can dancers make up missed classes?
Dancers in levels B-E may make up in a lower level Acro classes. Dancers in Primary and Level A may make up their acro class in any dance class at their level or below. There are no refunds or credits for classes missed. Classes must be made up within a month of missed class.
My dancer tried Acro and it wasn’t for him/her. Can I get a refund?
If your dancer decides not to continue with Acro the remainder of that month’s tuition will be credited to your account. There are no refunds on any payments made to Elite Dance Academy.
Is there a dress code?
Primary Level – Dancers must wear footless or convertible pink tights, no underwear, light pink x-back leotard, bare feet, and low to mid-level bun. Leotard must be purchased from Elite.
Levels A-E – Dancers must wear convertible, footless, or stirrup dance tights, no underwear, solid black leotard, solid black jazz shorts, bare feet, and hair slicked back in low to mid-level bun.
Boys – Black or white t-shirt, black basketball shorts with compression shorts underneath.
Will Acro classes have a routine in the Summer Concert?
During our regular dance season, Primary Acro dancers will have a parent showing in the Winter and Spring. Levels A-E will have a routine in our annual Summer Dance Concert. See current registration information for more information.
