These classes are offered to all students at all levels. All classes will have a choreographed piece to perform in the Summer Dance Concert.
The Pre-Professional Training Division is designed to prepare dancers for a career in Concert Dance and it was developed for the more serious dancer. All dancers are required to take weekly classes in Ballet, Modern, and Jazz Dance. Ballet levels 3 and higher are required to take two Ballet classes per week. In addition, we encourage all training division dancers to audition for Elite Dance Company (EDC).
Ballet/Pointe (Levels 1+)
Ballet is the foundation of ALL dance. It builds good posture, strong limber muscles, and self-confidence. Whether the student is dancing professionally or just for recreation, ballet training will enable a student to explore their natural love of movement. Levels 3 and above meet twice per week.
Demi-Pointe Through barre and center exercises, dancers will build strength and technical awareness in their feet, ankles, and alignment. No pointe shoes will be worn.
Pre-Pointe prepares the dancer for pointe shoes and focuses on proper body alignments and ankle/foot strength. Permission to go on pointe will be by teacher approval only.
Pointe (Levels 1+) Dancers have clear understanding of body alignment and proper technique. Center and across the floor Pointe work will be explored. Permission to go on pointe will be by teacher approval only.
Dress Code:Black leotard, pink footed or convertible dance tights, and pink split sole ballet shoes. Hair in secure bun. SPORTS BRAS SHOULD ONLY BE WORN IF NEEDED FOR SUPPORT. THEY MUST BE THE SAME COLOR OF THE LEOTARD FOR BALLET CLASSES. Boys: black shorts or pants and black or white t-shirt and white stretch ballet shoes.
Modern (Levels 1+)
Modern was created as a rebellion against the classical lines and repertoire of ballet dance in the early 1900’s. This class explores Modern concepts such as the swing, fall and recovery, and suspension, among others. Through floor, center, and across-the-floor exercises, dancers build physicality, body awareness, control, and improvisation skills.
Dress Code:-Solid color leotard, black convertible, footless, or stirrup dance tights or SOLID black leggings. Hair in secured bun. Sports bras should only be worn if needed for support. Boys: black shorts or pants and black or white t-shirt. Bare feet.
Jazz (Levels 1+)
This 60-minute class contains traditional jazz movements and technique, incorporating fundamental jazz style and musicality.
Dress code: Solid color leotard and SOLID black jazz shorts (black or nude convertible, footless, or stirrup dance tights optional). Hair in secure bun. Sports bras should only be worn if needed for support. Boys: black shorts or pants and black or white t-shirt. Stretch jazz boot.
Hip-Hop (Levels 1+)
Each 60-minute hip-hop class practices elements of various hip-hop dances with a contemporary jazz funk structure and emphasis on strength, power, energy, and musicality.
Dress Code: loose athletic/workout clothing and CLEAN gym shoes. If dancer is performing in the Summer Concert they must purchase the assigned Hip Hop shoes with Summer Concert Costumes. More information will be available in the Summer Concert Participation Packet. Hair secured back out of face.
Tap (Levels I+)
This 45-minute class focuses on the rhythms and styles of America’s own dance form.
Dress Code: Solid color leotard (tight solid tank top optional) and black yoga/Capri pants or SOLID black leggings. No long pants. Hair secured back out of face. Boys: black shorts or pants and black or white t-shirt. Black full sole tap shoe. Only black no-show socks will be allowed to be worn with shoes.
